Definition 1

Native Trees means those species of trees that [are native to OR have grown in] [the United Kingdom OR insert other jurisdiction or region] since the last ice age and listed as  native on the [Forestry Commission website OR insert other current or international equivalent].

Definition 2

Native Trees means trees which are indigenous to [the United Kingdom OR insert other jurisdiction or region], naturally occurring, and which have not been introduced directly or indirectly through the actions of humans.

Drafting notes and guidance

Native trees are beneficial to the survival of other native species (for example, insects and vertebrates). Providing new native tree habitats and/or corridors may improve the climate resilience of native species.

So-called ‘productive woodlands’ that are managed for timber often use non endemic or non-native species.
